The students will work on a strategic business unit and/or a new product idea in a company. They will use industry standard methods to conduct in-depth analysis of the business environment and develop strategies. The strategies can be related to the development of generic business strategies, strategies for international/domestic expansion, corporate level strategies, strategies about managing innovation, strategies about ethics and social responsibility, among others.

The project is flexible and may include the needs of the company regarding strategy. Related business areas outside the area of this course/expertise of the supervisor may also be considered given the company has resources to guide such a project and the students have the interest in it.

Expected outcomes and deliverables

A comprehensive analysis of the external environment (PESTEL), competitive business environment (Porter's five forces analysis), capabilities and resources analysis (VRIO) for the strategic business unit (SBU) would be the foundation of the report. This will be accompanied by the relevant strategy development/analysis related to business level strategy, corporate level strategy, international strategy, ethic/social responsibility, and/or other areas chosen for the project.
